Every year from 11–24 September, the European Green Belt Days transform the 12,500 km-long Green Belt into a stage of celebration, connection, and conservation. Communities come together through hikes, cultural events, workshops, and cross-border activities, turning the former Iron Curtain into a symbol of unity, biodiversity, and peace.
In 2025, celebrations will again stretch from north to south. Finland will host a traditional wooden fence workshop, and in Latvia, educational videos will be released and a social media campaign launched. A boat regatta will take place on Lake Neusiedl at the Austrian-Slovak-Hungarian border, while Italy will offer a guided hike highlighting both Cold War history and nature. In Southeast Europe, Serbia will share about a study trip to Stara Planina, and North Macedonia will feature a food fair with traditional products and an exchange of rural women on sustainable businesses. Montenegro will celebrate in the Lower Bojana/Buna Basin, Bulgaria will organize ecosystem workshops and a tour to Belogradchik Rocks, and Albania will host a youth exchange in Prespa, Devoll, and Korça. A cross-border hike will round off the program, connecting participants from North Macedonia, Serbia, and Montenegro along the Balkan Green Belt.
We wish all participants of the European Green Belt Days 2025 inspiring and memorable celebrations!
