Explore the European Green Belt by foot - on the European Day for Peace and Unity (May 9)

To mark Europe Day for Peace and Unity in the European Union on May 9, the Austrian League for Nature Conservation is presenting selected hiking routes that allow you to experience the European Green Belt - from the Bohemian Forest to the Karawanken - at a slower pace on foot.

Austria has almost 1,300 kilometers of the European Green Belt, which runs along the provinces of Upper and Lower Austria, Burgenland, Styria and Carinthia. The border region, which has received little attention for decades, offers many opportunities to experience nature in all its diversity: From the Bohemian Forest to the lowlands of the March-Thaya floodplains and Lake Neusiedl to the Styrian hills and the heights of the Karawanken - there are real natural and cultural treasures waiting to be discovered along the European Green Belt.

Together with its partner municipalities, the Austrian League for Nature Conservation has selected hiking trails in all European Green Belt federal provinces, along which those interested can explore this unique natural and cultural heritage: The routes not only lead through diverse, largely untouched nature, but also to historical and cultural sites that are closely linked to the history of the European Green Belt region.

Get outdoors and hike the European Green Belt on the European Day for Peace and Unity: Whether on a leisurely stroll or an extended tour - there is a suitable route for everyone on the Green Belt. Here you can find the routes.
