European Green Belt Days in 2025 - Lively celebration along Europe's longest green network

The European Green Belt Days in 2025 proved to be a wonderful celebration of nature and culture. People celebrated along the entire European Green Belt, from north to south, including many BESTbelt projects.

In 2025, organisations across the European Green Belt once again came up with new ideas and ways to celebrate their region's Green Belt. It's exciting to see how the participants develop a connection to the surrounding nature and culture through the organisations. The celebrations enable them to learn about and experience their unique role within Europe's longest green network.

In the Debar municipality of North Macedonia, for instance, people learnt about the Balkan Green Belt at a fair and a traditional cooking class. There, they could learn about the region's wild-harvested produce and how it connects culinary heritage with nature conservation. In Italy, participants on a hike experienced the transformation of a former border zone into an area of collaboration, peace and conservation. At Lake Neusiedl, participants from Austria, Hungary and Slovakia took part in a boat regatta and learnt about the importance of the lake's ecosystem.

Many BESTbelt projects were active too, organising activities in their project regions and presenting their projects, while also involving participants in restoration activities or citizen science.
