The stunning Pasvik-Inari Transboundary Area, consisting of five protected areas in Norway and Finland, has been successfully working bilaterally between both countries since February 2022. Just recently, the transboundary Protected Areas has passed the audit of the EUROPARC Federation, thereby re-certifying the cooperation between the border parks for the period 2025–2030.

The European Green Belt Days in 2025 proved to be a wonderful celebration of nature and culture. People celebrated along the entire European Green Belt, from north to south, including many BESTbelt projects.

The BESTbelt project “BirdsBELT“ was successfully completed at the end of October 2025. Besides actively implementing conservation and restoration activities, the project could clearly show the importance of the Balkan Green Belt for two emblematic bird species, the Lesser Kestrel and the Eastern Imperial Eagle.

A short documentary tells the stories of young volunteers from one BESTbelt project who explored the hidden bunkers of the Karst along the European Green Belt, where nature reclaims history and bats find peaceful refuge. The film features shots, voices and faces from Italy’s eastern border.

The BESTbelt project, which was recently completed, was dedicated to protecting the elusive otter at Lake Skadar through creative communication approaches, empowering local communities and bringing key stakeholders together.
