Green-Belt-Camps 2023: working together for nature!

The commitment of volunteers is decisive for the protection of the European Green Belt on many occasions. Therefore, the Austrian League for Nature Conservation (Naturschutzbund Österreich) invites nature enthusiasts to the Green Belt Camps again this year. Starting on 9 September for a fortnight, participants can get actively involved in the conservation of biodiversity.


The rehabilitation of grey dune habitats in Latvia continues

The restoration of grey dunes is one of the main priorities for the protection of coastal species and habitats. As part of a BESTbelt-funded project precious grey dunes at the Baltic Green Belt are maintained in good ecological quality.


Call for EU young journalists/writers open until 10th August

Blue Notte Gorizia is looking for young journalists/writers to be involved in a study visit in Gorizia (Italy) and Nova Gorica (Slovenia), along the former Iron Curtain. Exploring natural heritage is one of the focus.


Deadline for the 2nd BESTbelt call for proposals is around the corner!

Successful concept note applicants will submit their full proposals for projects within the European Green Belt until the 3rd of July 2023.

European Green Belt introduced at CBD COP 15 in Montreal

From 7 to 19 December 2022 the United Nations Biodiversity Conference (COP 15) took place in Montreal, Canada. At a side event on peace and biodiversity hosted by the Peace and Biodiversity Dialogue Initiative (PBDI) on 14 December 2022, Boris Erg (Director of the IUCN European Regional Office, Board member of the European Green Belt Association) presented the European Green Belt Initiative as a means to sustain peace and preserve nature in Europe.

First "Green Belt border stone" installed on Austrian-Hungarian border

To make the special nature at the former Iron Curtain visible, the first of a series of Green Belt border stones was erected in Schattendorf. As part of this year's Green Belt Days, Alois Lang from the Austrian League for Natur Conservation and former mayor Johann Lotter unveiled the landmark during a hike along the Green Belt.


Second Call for BESTbelt proposals starts mid-January 2023

The BESTbelt project is starting in its second year and a 2nd Call for proposals will be launched mid-January 2023. „BESTbelt“ aims to make it easier for local nature conservation organisations getting access to EU funds and strengthening their potential.
